Nedgroup take home the Raging Bull Award for the SA Management Company of 2015
Nedgroup Investments last night [Wednesday, 27 January 2016] won the Raging Bull Award for the South African Management Company of the Year, while Nedgroup Investments International was named the Offshore Management Company of 2015.
The South African and foreign management company of the year awards were two of 12 Raging Bull Awards announced at a gala dinner in Cape Town. The event was hosted by Personal Finance, a publication of Independent Media, as well as ProfileData and PlexCrown Fund Ratings.
The management company of the year award is based on the overall risk-adjusted performance of all a company’s funds in unit trust sectors that consist of five or more funds with a performance history of at least five years to the end of 2015.
Nedgroup Investments has featured among the top three South African management companies since 2009, but, until last night, had succeeded only in being named second-best company.
Nedgroup’s triumph brought an end to the reign of Coronation Fund Managers, which claimed the domestic management company award last year and in 2014, 2013, 2006, 2005 and 2003. Last night Coronation was named the second-best domestic management company of 2015, while Allan Gray received the certificate for the third-best company of 2015.
The Raging Bull Awards were established in 1997 to honour the managers of funds that consistently earn good returns for South African retail investors.
Usually, 10 Raging Bull Awards are handed out, but, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Awards, two special Raging Bulls were awarded. Investec Asset Management walked away with both awards. Its Equity Fund received the Special Raging Bull for top outright performance over 20 years by a domestic equity fund, while the Investec Managed Fund took the special award for the best risk-adjusted performance over 20 years by a multi-asset fund.
The other companies to receive Raging Bull Awards were 36ONE, Prescient, Old Mutual, Mazi Capital, Bateleur Capital and Rezco.
Apart from the 10 Raging Bull Awards, 42 certificates were awarded to funds that achieved outstanding returns over either three or five years to the end of December 2015.
